So much to do

Middleham is famous for its 12th century castle, once home to Richard III, which can still be explored today.

It is also famous for horse racing and training. Many race horses are trained in Middleham, and early risers can watch the horses being ridden out on to the gallops on the Town Moor for training every day.
Honeykiln Cottage is an excellent base for a walking holiday with many attractive walks starting from the village and around. Aysgarth Falls is a famed local beauty spot, and there are beautiful river-side walks near the waterfall.
Also worth a visit are Hackfall Woods, a beautiful woodland conservation area, which was once painted by romantic landscape artist Turner.
The Yorkshire Dales have something for everyone. If you are looking for history Middleham Castle, Jervaulx Abbey, Richmond Castle and many beautiful churches are close by.
For children the Forbidden Corner, Lightwater Valley Theme Park and Brymoor Ice Cream Farm provide perfect days out.
For action and sports, there are nearby centres for windsurfing, climbing and canoeing, as well as for horse riding.
If you want to relax and be pampered, the spa at Swinton Park, a luxury castle hotel, offers an exclusive range of treatments as well as an award winning restaurant.
Or take in a round of golf at Cattrick Golf Club, and then finish your day with a meal in their clubhouse, which is renowned for it's fantastic food.
You could stroll round the fascinating Thorp Perrow Arboretum or visit Constable Burton Hall and its extensive romantic gardens.
If you fancy a day out with a difference, catch a steam train on the Wensleydale railway and watch the countryside roll past your window; you can even have a lesson on how to drive the train.
Or just enjoy exploring the timeless villages and countryside, and don't forget to stop for a traditional Yorkshire afternoon tea!
There are many good local pubs and tea shops which serve food in both Middleham and the surrounding area, as well as some award winning restuarants.
Leyburn, which is 3 miles away from Middleham, has an excellent selection of fine food and wines available at Campbells Delicatessen.
Try some genuine local produce and get the feel of a old fashioned Dales' market day in Leyburn on a Friday when the traditional market is in the main cobbled square.
Don't forget to visit the Little Chocolate Shop and see the skilled craftsmen making chocolates by hand!
Of course, no holiday to Wensleydale would be complete without visiting the home of Wensleydale cheese, Wensleydale Creamery, and seeing how they still make Wensleydale cheese to a traditional recipe.
Finally stop off at the Black Sheep Brewery visitor centre and finish of your day with a tour of the brewery and a drink!
While you are there, why not visit their award winning bar and bistro?
